Green coffee for home roasters - an original Direct Trade coffee. Malabar Gold® is pre-blended while green for a European-style espresso. In the mix are Indian Monsooned Malabar beans known for their smooth and mellow taste plus a low level of acidity. There is a second aged bean in this blend as well plus a touch of Robusta for beautiful crema. This premium espresso blend produces a sweet, full-bodied shot with little bitterness. This coffee needs a good 4-5 days rest to come into its own. If you detect some off flavors, give it another day or two and try it again, you may be surprised at the transformation

The ready-to-roast Malabar Gold is designed for novice to intermediate roasters who might not have the initial knowledge or dedication to create a classic espresso blend—an art or craft that requires years of intense training. Blending for brewed coffees is markedly different than blending for espresso. While brewed coffee can accommodate a wide range of product characteristics in terms of acidity, aroma, taste, and aftertaste, espresso must maintain a fairly rigid profile.
Roasters will find Malabar Gold to be an extremely consistent blend. All coffees used in Malabar Gold are purchased in container loads from the estates where they are grown, picked, and processed for Josuma. All coffees in a container come from the same bulk; therefore, bag-to-bag variations are minimal. Once Josuma selects a lot for Malabar Gold, they preserve all bags in that particular lot for the blend. Whether they blend Malabar Gold in small lots or large, the espresso blend behaves the same way during roasting.
