Product Description

...In the evolution of home coffee roasters there was always one machine, or two, that did the job the best depending on the consumers need. But each roaster is eclipsed by the next better thing. The Gene Roaster takes center stage when you need more roasted coffee than an SR500 will produce. The happiness factor scores an all time high on Gene Cafe.

You’ll get the Sumo Sized chaff collector rather than the small standard chaff collector shown. That's standard now. No extra shipping fees, no extra work on your part, nuthin' it will be right in the box. This larger chaff collector allows you to attach a 3" metal duct to venting outside or right up to your stove top exhaust.

The Gene Cafe coffee roaster uses an off axis rotating chamber to mix the beans as a low volume of hot air blows, carrying chaff away to a chaff collector.

• The Gene Roaster is easy to use. Its as easy to use as a Fresh Roast Roaster. Its intuitive. WAY the heck more obvious and satisfying than a Hot Top, less expensive too.

• It roasts eleven ounces at a time. That's 3 more ounces than an Alpenrost / Bravi, two more than a Hot Top. PLUS the air flows through the whole time rather than holding the smoke in during the roast and releasing it all in one go. Yes, you can always roast less than a full batch if you don't need the entire 11 ounce capacity.

• Its worth every cent. It sounds like a lot of money, but figure that its about 3-4 cents per cup. If you're roasting now on a smaller home machine, you'll drastically cut down the time you spend roasting coffee each week. You'll have infinite control and high visibility of the beans.

• The details are there You can even dump a batch of beans to cool externally and start a new batch immediately. Other machines require an extended cool down period. While not intended to be do this indefinitely, that means you've roasted almost a pound and a half before any other home roaster could should you choose to.

• Great Controls Two knobs- time and temperature, simple as that. No presets, nothing to program. You see a readout of where you are in time and temperature and you control the roast in an entirely intuitive way. The big glass chamber lets you see the roast progress the whole way.

• Its got one of the BEST designed, and informative manuals of any home roaster.

• Its real consumer appliance that anyone can use. Its good looking, highly intuitive, and it works.

The Gene Roaster is:

Quiet,
Cost effective.
It has full control, and
Full visibility of the beans.

The Gene Roaster is a winner.

I have used this roaster since it was first introduced and roast about 5lbs a month. It is easy to use and does a beautiful light or dark roast. It is very easy to use and with proper outside ventilation which is easy to set up there is little smoke inside even for a dark roast. However because it can roast at high temps you do need to keep an eye on it when roasting at high temps for longer periods to get you that really dark roast. I just torched mine which was completely user error and not the machine. If you roast alot of coffee and want professional quality roasts, especially if you like a dark roast this is an excellent choice. Initial cost is high but if you roast frequently then the price will be worth it in the long run (Posted on 11/17/10)
